WEEK 14
Seventeen-year-old Supporters Gold fourth grade number three batsman Tyson Johnson notched his maiden century against Greta/Branxton at Baddeley 3 to complete round 14 of competition last Saturday.
Johnson came in to bat at the fall of the first wicket, and not having scored a fifty before let alone a century, he smashed 25 boundaries in a fine innings of 157 not out to set up victory for his team.
In first grade Bellbird, Greta/Branxton and Mulbring remain all locked up at the top of the competition ladder after all teams recorded fairly comfortable victories in their respective matches on the weekend.
With temperatures approximately 20 degrees cooler than the week previous, Mulbring had an early afternoon in their 10-wicket victory over Peden’s Hotel at the Basin. Peden’s batted first but were all bowled out in the 24th over for just 41, with skipper Pete Brennan and Mick James equal top scoring with 9. Tom Gleghorn was Mulbring’s best with the ball with 4-11 off of 6 very good overs, while Nigel Callan (3-5 off 8) and Luke Reed (2-18 off 5) were the other wicket takers.
The Marlins cruised to victory in the seventh over without losing a wicket, with Drew Olsen (32no) and Mick Mascord (11no) getting the job done.
Bellbird continued their recent good batting form with a 91-run victory over Wine Country at Allandale. The Tigers batted first and posted 4-249 from their forty overs. Jason Orr (93) fell just seven runs short of that illusive ton he has been chasing, with Matt Fairlie (85) and Joe Main (41no) also joining in the run-fest. Nathan Wright was the home side’s best with the ball with 3-42 off 9.
In reply the Wood Ducks were all out in the 28th over for 158, with Mick Letts once again among the runs with a well-made 44. Club president Mark O’Hara made 38, while for the visitors Dave Gyler (4-10 off 4) and Craig Schumacher (3-37 off 4) did the damage with the ball.
In the final game Greta/Branxton recorded a fairly comfortable 52-run victory over Supporters Club at Miller Park.
Sent in to bat the home side managed 9-170 from their forty overs, with ever reliable skipper Josh Dagg leading the way at the top of the order with a patient 44. Most other batsmen made starts, with Mick Shelley (25), Mick Shepherd (13), Chris Bonar (13) and Cliff Newling (12) all making contributions. Alan Clarke (3-26 off 10), skipper Nathan Stapleford (3-52 off 10) and Paul Wright (2-30 off 5) all took wickets for the visitors.
The Goannas were all out for 118 in reply, with Bailey Bromage (38), Mick Gates (37) and Matt McCarthy (19no) the only batsman in double figures. Martin Shearer made it 14 wickets in his last 3 starts against the Goannas with 5-22 off 8, receiving good support from Jake Goodyer (2-30 off 8) who appreciated bowling in the cooler temperatures in total contrast to the week before.
